A case study in English and French examining how the Doughnut is being localized in two Canadian municipalities

As we grapple with the climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic downturn, and the urgent need for social and racial justice, we are in critical need of an economic framework that helps us live within our planetary limits while ensuring the health and wellbeing of all people. Doughnut Economics is a promising framework in this regard, and one that is being explored and adopted by communities around the world.
As part of a Tamarack Institute initiative to better understand the potential application of Doughnut Economics in our communities and cities, we prepared this case study report that examines the Doughnut, how it fits with other sustainability frameworks, such as One Planet Living, and how the Doughnut is being localized in two Canadian cities: Nanaimo and Victoria.
The research was carried out in 2021 and it was enriched through interviews with key actors in each city and also with the DEAL Team's Rob Shorter. We are glad to make the case study report available in both English and French, which you can read by clicking on the links below:
Alors que nous luttons contre la crise climatique, la pandémie de COVID-19, le ralentissement économique qui s’ensuit et le besoin pressant de justice sociale et raciale, il est essentiel que nous adoptions un cadre économique qui nous permet de vivre en respectant les limites de la planète tout en assurant la santé et le bien-être de tout le monde. La théorie du donut est un cadre prometteur à cet égard et de nombreuses communautés partout dans le monde sont en train de l’explorer et de l’adopter.
Dans le cadre d'une initiative de l'Institut Tamarack visant à mieux comprendre l'application potentielle de l'économie du donut dans nos communautés et nos villes, nous avons préparé ce rapport d'étude de cas qui examine le donut, son intégration à d’autres cadres durables, comme One Planet Living, et la localisation du donut, notamment dans deux villes canadiennes: Nanaimo et Victoria.
La recherche a été réalisée en 2021 et elle a été enrichie par des entretiens avec des acteurs clés dans chaque ville et également avec Rob Shorter de l'équipe DEAL.
